Back to School

In the Roman Martyrology for August 6, we read:

"At Alcala in Spain, the holy martyrs Justus and Pastor, brothers. While they were yet schoolboys, they threw aside their books in school, and spontaneously ran to martyrdom. By order of the governor Dacian, they were arrested, beaten with rods,

and as they exhorted each other to constancy, were led out of the city, and had their throats cut by the executioner."

I know plenty of students who would joyously throw aside their school books, but I don't know how many would then hasten to martyrdom! On the other hand, with school starting on Tuesday, students may feel that they are hastening to their books AND martyrdom. If they remember to say their morning offering, nothing of their sacrifice will get lost.

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day -- for all the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered throughout the world in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all our associates, and in particular for the intentions recommended this month by our Holy Father the Pope. And I wish to gain all the indulgences attached to all the prayers I shall say and the good works I shall perform this day. Amen.

Morning Offering for Young Children

O Jesus, I offer everything I will do today and everything I will suffer today and everything that will make me happy today for love of Thee. Dear Blessed Mother, please help me to always do what God wants me to do. Dear Guardian Angel, please watch over me.

Morning Offering for Very Young Children

Good morning, Blessed Mother, I'm glad you're always near! Good morning, kind St. Joseph and Baby Jesus dear! Good morning, Guardian Angel with wings so shiny white! Please help and guide me always to think and do what's right.
